What's Wrong With Drinking
Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about drinking.
We can start in the book of Proverbs 20:1 it says Wine is a mocker, intoxicating drink arouses brawling, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
To help you understand more clearly this is a newer version of the Bible.
Proverbs 20:1 Wine gives false courage; hard liquor leads to brawls; what fools men are to let it master them, making them reel drunkenly down the street!
We can see God’s opinion of a man that drinks he is not wise.
But it says that he is a foolish man.
Let me show you what else the Bible says about drinking.
I have a question for you?
Do you know that drunkards will not go to heaven?
It says so in the Bible Galatians 5:19 through 21
19. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, licentiousness,
20. idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
21. envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
If you look at verse 21 it says those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
It’s trying to tell us that if we practice drunkenness we will not go into heaven.
The Bible teaches us that what is right and what is wrong.
What is good for us and what is bad for us.
God is just trying to help us to understand what can hurt you.
You say well I don’t think drinking hurts anyone.
What about those who have family members that drink, and that alcohol rules their life’s.
If drinking is so good why is it that so many die from it?
In car accidents or liver failure.
You can also say that it’s no one else’s business but your own.
But sometimes we’ll realize our decisions in life do affect others.
Its effects your mother and your father your wife your husband your kids and others you have no idea of.
It even affects me and you may not know me.
But if it didn’t affect me why would I be writing this?
The pain that alcohol brains does not make it worth the risk of hurting another’s and yourself.
We all think that bad things happen to others until its to late and we find out that bad things can happen to us.
There is no one that desires to become a alcoholic.
There is no one that wakes up one morning and makes a decision saying to themselves I think I will become a professional alcoholic as
an career. It’s starts with the first drink.
Let’s look at how Alcohol affects those who use it
Proverbs 23:29 through 35
29. Whose heart is filled with anguish and sorrow? Who is always fighting and quarreling? Who is the man with bloodshot eyes and many wounds? It is the one who spends long hours in the taverns, trying out new mixtures.
31. Don't let the sparkle and the smooth taste of strong wine deceive you.
32. For in the end it bites like a poisonous serpent; it stings like an adder.
33. You will see hallucinations and have delirium tremens, and you will say foolish, silly things that would embarrass you no end when sober.
34. You will stagger like a sailor tossed at sea, clinging to a swaying mast.
35. And afterwards you will say, ``I didn't even know it when they beat me up. Let's go and have another drink!''
This is a description of what drinking will do for you.
You’ll say foolish things.
You embarrassed yourself.
You’ll get into fights and they will beat you and you won’t remember it.
And you will still say after all of this lets go gets another drink.
This is what drinking can do for you.
Sometimes we do not realize that the Bible has so much to say about drinking.
God is just trying to warn us of the hazards of drinking.
Of what it can do to our health and are soul.
Sometimes we do not realize how foolish we look when we are drunk to others.
As a father, how do you look to your children?
As a husband, How do you look in your wife’s eyes?
And as a son or a daughter, how do you make your parents feel?
No matter what position you play in life you affect others with your decisions.
I want you to know that God can help you change.
Why is drinking so dangerous for us?
Let’s look and see what the Bible has to say.
Ephesians 5:18
Don't drink too much wine, for many evils lie along that path; be filled instead with the Holy Spirit, and controlled by him.
Drinking will always lead to troubles it has never ever fixed anyone’s problems.
But it has made it worse.
Sometimes we think we don’t have to stop drinking even though the Bible tells us of the dangers of its.
We continue on doing what we think is right even know we see that God is against drinking.
You can say why did God make wine / beer if it wasn’t for us to drink?
God also created cyanide that doesn’t mean you have to drink it.
God is just trying to show you that there is a better way through Jesus Christ
And I’m not talking religion I’m talking a relationship that can change your life.
Let’s continue on and see what else the Bible has to say about drinking.
Let’s look in Proverbs 23:21 for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.
Drinking can and probably will lead you to poverty nobody likes being broke.
But show me any person that has been in trapped by alcohol that it has not led him or her to failure sooner or later.
But you do not have to fall into failure you can get out of failure and you can become the person that you want to become and that God wants you to become.
God warns us much like a parent that warns their child about boiling water.
They showed them and tell them that it is not safe
But like some of us we did not listen to our parents warning when we were young and got burned.
And now that we are old we still are not listening to warnings that are placed before us.
God is warning, stay away from that thing that will ruin your life, God loves you and that’s why he is trying to tell you the truth about
Drinking .
The Bible says in John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.
God demonstrated his great love for you when he allowed Jesus Christ to die on the cross for you.
Jesus is not just our savior he’s our friend also, and he has proved his friendship to us and his love on the cross of Calvary.
He laid down his life for you, for me, and for the whole world
That is great love.
