Dealing with loneliness.
What does the Bible say?

Loneliness hits everyone at some time or another.
So when loneliness hits what do we do?
We have two choices:
We can either sit in our misery or we can turn and see what the word of God has to say.
These are our choices, now you need to choose which one you’re going to do.

Loneliness is a horrible feeling  and definitely is not of God.
But it is designed by the devil to separate us from the presence of God.
It's designed to overcome us  by making us feel we are alone.
But this is far from the truth.

The Bible has several things to say about loneliness.
Loneliness is one of the strangest feelings a person can have.
It is absolutely amazing how you can be in a crowded room of hundreds and feel alone.
Many people who feel lonely have friends, family and other acquaintances and their lives, such as husbands and wives.
But this does not stop us from feeling lonely.

It might surprise you to know that even Jesus felt alone from time to time.
How do you think he felt when he knew they were coming for him, and that night he took his chosen disciples to
help him pray.
And to his great disappointment he came out and found them asleep, that’s enough to depress any Pastor.
Don’t you think he felt alone at that moment?

You can find this in the book of
Matthew 26:36-41
Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray
yonder
37.  And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38.  Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39.  And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass
from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40.  And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41.  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

This didn’t just happen once it happened twice.
Can you imagine how he must have felt?

Jesus is one of our greatest examples in the Bible of things that can and will happen to us, such as loneliness.
And this was not the only time he felt lonely . what about when he was on the cross and he spoke these words to God"My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

In the book of
Matthew 27:46
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say,
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Loneliness can hit even a good Christian no one is beyond its touch.
But the Bible does help us to defeat these feelings

It gives us such scriptures as:

Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

The Bible tells us we have to be strong and encourage ourselves.
How do we encourage ourselves, by reading the Bible and praying.
The Word of God in Deuteronomy tells us that God will not fail us or leave us alone.
You have to remember, loneliness is an attack from the devil no matter if it is brought by the means of mentally, physically or spiritually
And one of the ways we can defeat it, is by knowing what God’s Word says.

Remember the Bible, teaches us, "greater is he that is in you then he that is in the world"
1 John 4:4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

The Psalms tell us this.
Psalms 34:17-18
17.  The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18.  The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

The Bible tells us that God hears us when we are lonely and when we pray to him.
And he will deliver us out of these troubled times.
Remember what it says in verse 18, the Lord is not far from those that have a broken heart
or feel lonely.
We have to remember God is not going to leave us alone.

This means in the good times and bad.
Matthew 28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

You see according to the Scriptures God promises he will not leave us alone ever.
God will help us through anything we go through in this life even loneliness
You may feel lonely right now but you are not alone, God is right there right now with you and for you.

The Bible says that nothing can remove God from your life so you are not ever alone.
Look at what the Bible says:
Isaiah 54:10
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee,
neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee.

Nothing can separate you from God if you don’t want it to.
Sometimes it is a battle to get out of this feeling of loneliness.
But with the help of God’s word and prayer you can have the victory over loneliness.

1 Samuel tell us that God will not abandon his people.
In other words he will not ever leave us alone.
1 Samuel 12:22
For the Lord will not forsake his people for his great name's sake:
because it hath pleased the Lord to make you his people.

Think about this, the Bible says in the book of Samuel it pleases God to make us his people.
If we make God happy why would he leave us alone?
Of course, we know the answer to that question ; he wouldn’t no matter what we go through you are not ever alone.

Remember God is a faithful God he’s not like man if he tells you something in his word he will do it.
Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said,
and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

So if God has given us this scriptures this means he cannot take them back he will not ever leave us alone.
Now that’s great news for all.

Before we came to Christ we faced loneliness all by ourselves, I know that some people say that religion is a crutch but you know something, when you’ve got a broken leg it's always good to have a crutch at least untill you heal.

Psalms 34:17-18
17.  The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
18.  The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

When it comes to loneliness there’s two things you can do about it.
1. is to let it overcome you.
2. is to prey and remember what the Bible says that if you resist the devil he has to leave.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

We have to resist these feelings of loneliness in whenever manner you can use;if it’s prayer pray if it’s using God’s Word use it.

But whatever you use you have to believe in God and what he says
Psalms 27:10
When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.

Sometimes we feel lonely because our families turn away from us but God will not ever forsake us.
God is not just our God he can also be our friend, our family, our father, and our mother.
He can be all things to us if we let him.
Let God fill in that area of loneliness that we feel.
God does not want us to feel lonely but when you do, remember God is always there to fill
those times of emptiness, if you let him he can fill in that empty space called loneliness.
Open your heart to him today and let him in and he will fill in that loneliness you’re feeling.

My prayer is that this has helped you overcome your feelings of loneliness.
You are not alone.

God bless you
